Matte Red Lipstick Showoff

Matte Red Lipstick review: I did a thing over at the Dub Loft which was pretty fun for me. I got to test out a bunch of lippies! Specifically, some matte reds (because you know Valentines is right around the corner!). Now my lips are perpetually dry so I generally don’t wear Matte Red Lipstick, these (or most) were actually quite nice to wear.


My favorite, color-wise, was the Huda Beauty lipstick ‘famous’. It’s a delicious dark berry red shade and I’m all about dark lips. BUT, overall, I think Tarte’s ‘cheerleader’ gets the goal. It was comfortable to wear, dried quickly but not too quick that application was horrendous and had NO TRANSFER!

  • The lipsticks in the video are Tarte ‘Cheerleader’, Maybelline ‘Rebel Red’, Huda Beauty ‘Famous’, Anastasia Beverly Hills ‘Serafine’. Links are to Sephora or related sites.
  • The Huda Beauty lipstick, while I loved the color, did have the transfer. I wore this one out of the studio, went to eat afterward and it didn’t last a mealtime, unfortunately. I never really expect any lip product to last a meal to be fair.
  • I was pretty shocked by Tarte’s matte lipstick. I’ve tried Inglot’s and MAKE UP FOR EVER’s, both of which are super comfortable to wear but any other one I have tried I have wanted to rub off quickly. This one was great! I would definitely grab a tube of this.

The one I was most disappointed with was the Maybelline Matte Red Lipstick one. It’s more of a creamy matte. It doesn’t dry down and there is some transfer. The good side to this is it won’t dry out your lips and can wear more comfortably. However, if you’re specifically looking for matte, I would opt for a different brand.

For a $4.99USD lipstick, these perform quite well. Now, I’m generally not a huge fan of liquid lipsticks because my lips are perpetually dry, however, these were nice to wear. They aren’t the most comfortable I’ve worn but they’re good for a drugstore brand!


I wore this a whole day once and the staying power is great -minus the inside of the mouth which generally has the weakest staying power for any liquid/matte lipstick. By the end of the day I did want to moisturize my lips but like I said, perpetually dry lips so I often feel like that!


It’s not sticky and dries quickly so if you’re the type to take your time for precision, you’ll have to work faster than normal.

The colors LIPSTICK REVIEW I received are all pretty. Pink Really Hard is very pink and not something I’d generally wear but if you’re into a pop of pink, you have to try this one out! Rebel Rose is a muted plum pink that I think a lot of people will be attracted to. Coral Corruption is a great spring/summer color, IMO. It’s vibrant and I do love my corals -I feel like most people can wear coral.


The application is a standard sponge tip. Glides easy and mess-free.


They swatched a bit patchy on my arm, they work best with two light layers on the lips but I didn’t notice them being patchy while wearing them.

Would I purchase? Since I’m not generally a fan of liquid lipsticks I don’t think I would purchase. Though they feel nice and aren’t sticky, I think there are other liquid lipsticks out there that are more comfortable –but for a price! If you don’t suffer from constantly dry lips these will suit you nicely! They have a great color selection and will have something for any skin tone.
